Norsemen Find  A Gem In Their Hamper

To say this game was just about getting revenge would be untrue. To say this game was ALL about getting revenge would be correct. (No grudges held for our AFA Quarter Final defeat last year…honest!)

The day started with an air of a school trip about it, without teachers. Mr Jackson was celebrating an anniversary with his other half, and Mr Owen was taking his regular Yoga class…apparently it makes him more supple. Anyway without said ‘teachers’ the students of Norsemen unguided and ill directed struggled to find their destination losing passengers on the way. Leroy and Ant despite missing the train managed to find their compass and rocked up with plenty of time to spare. Mark on the other hand minus Mr Jackson to escort him, fell by the way side and ended up god knows where. Besides the shambles of a journey there were regular Norsemen Travel club familiarities about proceedings. Number one, fruit loaf (Thank you Morais and also for you’re nutritional expertise about ‘Go-Ahead’). Number two, Ross’ jumpers he borrows from his grandad for away games.

Anyway enough of that. The team:
                                                     Ant
                    Os               Ballers                Tadd                  Muzza
                  Hemps           Pearo             Nutritionist            Lillywhite
                                       Leroy               James A
Subs:
Morris
Ross

A classic game of two halfs, two contrasts in style, and a ref bizarrely wearing sunglasses throughout the game. Someone obviously told him in advance he would require the tinted specs with Hamptonians in possession, as he would spend more time looking up in the air. To be fair this style of play, wind assisted, was causing our back four problems particularly in the cranium department, as our defence all complained of sore heads after the game. A penalty fairly early into the game saw Hamptonians have a chance to take the lead…However the striker failed as he was confused that for a penalty you actually have to kick it not head it. Good save mind. With a constant aerial pressure on the Norsemen goal Hamptonians finally took advantage of their…aerial pressure. Oh what a surprise a header. Anyway enough said about Wimbledon. (Apologies for sounding like a bitter Parkonians match reporter, but who would honestly want to pay to play in that manner)

Second half

The second half began with a football match taking place consisting of passing and free flowing moves. Norsemen’s nutritionist and anti ‘Go-ahead’ campaigner, went ‘ahead’ and delivered a beautiful through ball, which was perfectly weighted into the stride of Leroy, who in typical Weewoy fashion dispatched. Norsemen continued for the remainder of the half to camp themselves in Hamptonian territory, but despite numerous chances to finish the game the match headed into extra time. (AKA Extra fitness).

The introduction of JoMo ensured an unusually fresh centre mid pairing for the 90th minute of a game with Ross only recently coming on too. Again the first half of extra time with us being against the wind and slightly uphill, meant a bigger challenge than what was about to unfold in the second…Lucky that, as Ross twisted his knee awkwardly about five minutes before half time of extra time. The lucky bit wasn’t Ross being injured and us down to ten men for the remainder of the game having used all subs, but the fact we scored just before that. A great team goal as well. In our defensive third we dealt with a throw in and played the ball out of the left back area into Leroy’s feet, he put a delicious ball cross field to Hempo, who didnt want to spoil Leroy’s pass so decided to better it with a undefendable (not a word) cross onto James Alexander’s head. GOAL!!

The second half of extra time consisted of us playing keep ball in the corner and hempo constantly blasting the ball against Hamptonian legs for corners (much to the annoyance of the Hamptonian players). This report is going to abruptly end as it has gone 7 on this Tuesday the 25th October, and I am now going to be late for training. Final score 2-1 Norse. Next up Carshalton at Home on the 12th November.
